Maureen's Background in Childcare
I have worked in the childcare sector since leaving school; I have been a registered child-minder, opened and managed a parent and toddler group and then pre-school. I have worked in full day care and sessional care, in the private and voluntary sectors.
I have close links with the Pre-school Learning Alliance (PsLA); renamed in 2018 Early Years Alliance; at local and regional level. The Diploma in Management (DMS) increased my business acumen. Which was refined whist working as a project officer for the PLA, and LA's advising childcare providers on the business and management side of operating childcare. My knowledge, skills and experience of business, was enhanced whilst implementing government strategies and initiatives.
I have experience of a wide range of initiatives including; Neighbourhood Nurseries, two, three and four-year-old funded entitlement, capital grant funding, sustainability funding /initiatives, to list a few.
Partnership working with colleagues from across all sectors, including independent nursery schools, private, voluntary and committee run pre-schools and nurseries, local authority nursery schools, Sure Start centres, day nurseries, out of school and holiday care in the private and voluntary sector and FE colleges helped develop my people management skills.
I have a Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) and have tutored both short and qualification childcare courses at FE colleges across Lancashire and Yorkshire; I also hold the NVQ assessor award D32/D33.
I was instrumental in producing the very successful ‘How to survive in the nursery business’ DVD, which continues to provide invaluable advice and guidance to both new start-ups and existing childcare across all sectors.
'Maureen is a very insightful and inspirational person, her advice having been a great help to me while I have been setting up my business. In whatever she does, she is very thorough, forward looking, strategic, practical and honest, with a high level of attention to detail.
She also offers a considerable amount to the wider community with her involvement in lots of charitable and people related causes and activities, which she does voluntarily with a high degree of passion, in addition to running her own very successful business.'
